America reacts to Revolutionary Guards leader on Hormuz
The Central American forces responded to claims made by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy commander Ali Asgari, who stated that he controls the Strait of Hormuz and that any American warships approaching it would be sunk. The United States affirmed that it maintains actual control over the strait, and that its forces and regional partners have recently helped facilitate the shipment of over 19 million barrels of oil through the strait. While Asgari indicated that the Iranian navy controls the strait and the Persian Gulf, and that the blockade extends to the Arabian Sea, the Pentagon demonstrated that actual control remains American, and that Iran is limited to issuing transit permits for ships passing through its maritime passages.
