Tigray Update: Government Moves and Surrenders
The Ethiopian federal forces and their allies entered the town of Adwa in the Tigray Region, near the border with Eritrea, after the Tigray People's Liberation Front withdrew from the town without fighting. Reports indicated that some officers from the front surrendered, and their fighters gathered at the Eritrean border. Residents reported that the town was looted and commercial activity had come to a halt, while aerial strikes targeted the hotel where some of the front’s leaders were staying. The area also witnessed disagreements among fighters regarding crossing into Eritrea. Tigrayan peacekeeping forces confirmed that some officers from the front had surrendered, while Mekelle celebrated the return of the government following its control of the city. However, tensions with Eritrea remain, amid mutual accusations of hindering peace and increasing the strains between the two countries.
