Egypt assures wheat supplies
The Egyptian government has confirmed that the wheat stock in the country is sufficient for several months, thanks to increased local production that has reduced reliance on imports. The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade indicated that Egypt received approximately 5 million tons of local wheat during the 2026 delivery season, with expansions in cultivated areas and incentives for farmers through higher purchase prices. Additionally, Egypt's wheat imports during the first half of the year increased by 48%, reaching 7.7 million tons. Meanwhile, the strategic reserve is enough to last for nine months instead of six. The government is focusing on strengthening stockpiles and developing silo management through technological innovations, while bakery owners are demanding an increase in the price of free bread to cope with rising costs, despite the government's assurance that prices have remained stable so far.
