US Army Battles AI Transition Challenges
The US Army faced significant challenges in transitioning to full reliance on artificial intelligence on the battlefield. During exercises in the Mojave Desert, high server temperatures and battery exhaustion disrupted the technology, forcing soldiers to cool devices manually. Drones also experienced signal issues due to strong winds and high temperatures. Despite efforts to upgrade systems, emerging technologies are still considered fragile when used under real wartime conditions. The US Army struggles to fully leverage AI technologies, especially given its dependence on off-the-shelf and experimental software and products, while the need to improve communication and network connectivity on the battlefield continues.
