U.S. Treasury Secretary misses IMF Meetings
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Biesent was absent from the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank held in Bangkok due to local commitments. This comes amid rising economic pressures in the United States resulting from higher bond yields and Middle Eastern tensions, which have led to increased oil prices and energy costs. The United States was set to take over the presidency of the G20, and Biesent was scheduled to chair the meeting, but instead, his deputy and the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury led the delegation. The country is facing economic pressure from rising living costs and measures affecting the upcoming midterm elections.
