The Mauritanian presidency announced the resignation of Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Mkhaitir and his government after more than two years in office, without revealing the reasons for the resignation in the official statement. However, this step comes a day after an independent investigation report was submitted concerning two major fires at two main power stations in Nouakchott, which led to a total power outage and widespread damage to public infrastructure and property. The investigations revealed errors in the planning and implementation of the projects, deficiencies in supervision, and held some officials responsible for the fires. This event is part of a broader context in which officials are dealing with their responsibilities in energy and electricity management, and it is expected to lead to potential changes in government leadership and the formation of the upcoming cabinet.
