Al-Hasakah sees large protests over Syrian Science
Thousands of residents of Al-Hasakah in Syria gathered after Friday prayers to demand the imposition of state sovereignty, strengthen the presence of its institutions in the governorate, and call for the release of detainees and missing persons held in the prisons of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The protesters raised the Syrian national flag in the central square. These demonstrations come as part of the implementation of the January 29, 2026, agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF, which aims to incorporate the former Kurdish autonomous administration institutions into the state's structures, despite ongoing complaints about SDF control over the areas. Delegations from other provinces also participated, with attendees emphasizing Syrian unity and rejecting the existence of separate militias, reaffirming the need to restore state authority over the entire governorate. These gatherings were accompanied by increased security presence and peaceful protests, with participants raising the Syrian flag alongside pictures of detainees and martyrs, expressing a firm stance on Syrian sovereignty and territorial unity.
