Egypt Naguib Sawiris on 1967 setback
The article discusses Naguib Sawiris's response to statements attributed to Presenter Mustafa Bakry, which accused the Egyptian military leadership of being responsible for the 1967 defeat rather than Gamal Abdel Nasser. Sawiris pointed out that the president is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and that the political decisions leading to the war are entirely his responsibility, emphasizing that Nasser bears the blame for the setback. Bakry responded by referencing Sadat's comments after the October Victory, in which he stated that the military leadership was responsible for the defeat and not Nasser, which drew criticism from Sawiris. Additionally, Sawiris faced an attack from Bakry, who accused him of spreading lies about Nasser, despite the fact that Sawiris has previously praised Nasser’s integrity and opposed criticisms of his policies.
