Ethiopia Reports Tigray Conflict to Security Council
The Ethiopian government has submitted a request to the United Nations Security Council for the withdrawal of Eritrean forces from its territories, considering their presence as a comprehensive invasion into northern Ethiopia. It clarified that Eritrean troops have advanced up to 60 kilometers into Ethiopian land and deployed military units deep within the area, leading to an escalation of tensions between the two countries. Ethiopia accuses Eritrea of supporting rebel forces in the Tigray region, a claim denied by the government of Asmara, amid ongoing hostilities, including drone strikes against Eritrean forces in the area. The current escalation is linked to the ongoing conflicts since the fighting began in the Tigray region, the largest since the end of the civil war there in 2022, with relations deteriorating between the two nations after years of reconciliation.
