Palestinian Authority denounces Israel's actions at British consulate
The Palestinian authorities rejected the Israeli "unlawful" measures announced against the British Consulate in Jerusalem. Deputy President Hussein Al-Sheikh clarified that closing the consulate represents an unacceptable interference in the work of diplomatic missions and an attempt to impose Israeli sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem, which Palestine has considered its capital since 1967. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that East Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories and that Israel does not possess sovereignty over it, reaffirming Britain’s right to continue operating its consulate in Jerusalem. In contrast, Israel announced that the British consulate in East Jerusalem has been closed by its order, and that British diplomats will leave. Meanwhile, the British Foreign Secretary stated that the consulate will remain open and that Britain will continue its work there to support the Palestinians.
