Syria Criticizes Male-Only Specialty Limits
The admission requirements announced by the Ministry of Higher Education in Syria, which are restricted to certain disciplines for males only, have sparked widespread criticism. This is considered discriminatory against women and limits their opportunities for education and employment. The restrictions include programs at military and security universities, as well as civilian institutions in fields such as media and oil. However, some disciplines like law and engineering remain accessible to women at other universities. It is worth noting that these restrictions are not new, but they have provoked anger and condemnation, especially amid growing concerns over the restriction of public and women's freedoms following the recent measures taken by the authorities.
