Surge in European electric car sales
A study showed that sales of electric cars in the European Union reached a record high in 2026, with 1.64 million vehicles sold from January to August, representing a 45% increase over the previous year. Electric cars accounted for 22% of the car market during this period, accompanied by a significant expansion in the range of available models by 50%, especially with companies like Volkswagen introducing more affordable options. Rising fuel prices due to the conflict in the Middle East, particularly a 38% increase in diesel prices, are driving consumers toward electric vehicles, helping companies meet emissions reduction targets and avoid penalties.
