Abiy Ahmed Discusses Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam Pressures
The Ethiopian Parliament reappointed Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for a second term, and in his speech, he confirmed that his country is prepared to face challenges and pressures, especially concerning the construction of the Renaissance Dam on the Nile River, which has caused disagreements with Egypt and Sudan. He clarified that Ethiopia's goal is to ensure reliable access to the sea and strengthen its regional position, while continuing the operation of the Renaissance Dam, the largest in Africa, which contributes to electricity generation despite concerns over its impact on the water shares of Egypt and Sudan. Ethiopia affirmed that the dam does not pose a threat, whereas Egypt and Sudan have expressed their worries about the water shortages resulting from it.
