Third convoy leaves Syrian desert camps
The article discusses the return of displaced families to their original areas in Ras al-Ayn / Sere Kaniye in the Syrian Al-Jazeera region, as part of an agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which began implementation in January 2024. The article highlights that the return process is progressing gradually, with the evacuation of the surrounding area of 75 villages and the reentry of approximately 1,611 families (around 10,000 people) so far. The return process relies heavily on demining efforts in the designated areas, as landmines had caused significant delays and challenges. Officials pointed out that landmines were the main obstacle to the stability of returning residents. The involved committee plans to facilitate the return of about 2,000 families in the upcoming phase, while ongoing efforts continue to clear landmines and support the returnees' stability, despite the continued presence of around 13,000 internally displaced persons in camps and shelters in al-Hasakah.
