British Green Party labels Zionism racist Israel bans leader
The British Green Party has acknowledged that Zionism is considered a racist movement after party members voted on a proposal to classify it as such, with 1,022 members supporting the classification compared to 813 opposed. This led to an official acknowledgment by the party that Zionism supports an "ethnic Jewish state." The vote took place in the context of the party's support for establishing a "democratic Palestinian state across the entirety of historic Palestine" and its view of Zionism as a racial issue, while emphasizing that opposition to Zionism does not equate to anti-Semitism. Israel responded to the decision by banning the party leader, Zack Polansky, from entering the country, claiming that the classification equates Zionism with racism and supports armed struggle against Israel. Conversely, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered the decision to equate Zionism with racism and viewed it as a threat to the Jewish people's right to self-determination.
