Extended holidays enhance China’s tourism growth
During the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, China experienced a significant surge in the tourism sector, with many travelers choosing to extend their vacations by combining the two holidays or taking advantage of short breaks to travel long distances. Some travelers made the most of the three days between the holidays to turn their vacation into a 13-day trip, leading to increased bookings for long-distance flights and hotels across multiple cities, with a 53% rise in reservations for accommodations in four or more cities. Additionally, bookings for flights exceeding 2,000 km increased by 76% compared to the previous year, with travelers seeking richer travel experiences beyond traditional museum visits—such as nighttime tours and fireworks shows, which saw demand grow by over 50%. These increases indicate that extended holidays have helped spread travel over a longer period, boosting demand for tourism services and accommodations, and encouraging more exploration of unconventional destinations.
