Washington relaxes Syria arms export ban
The United States has lifted the comprehensive weapons embargo on Syria, following the approval of a new policy by the U.S. Department of State in August that allows for individual review of export requests instead of automatic rejection. This change does not grant automatic approval for arms sales; rather, it enables authorities to evaluate each request separately and decide whether to approve or deny in accordance with the law. The move aims to ease restrictions and improve relations with Damascus, while seven other countries continue to maintain a policy of total embargo.
