Al-Zaydi Sets 2027 Deadline for Faction Weapons Count
The Iraqi government focused on initiating a serious plan to address the issue of weapons outside state control, setting October 1, 2026, as the start date for implementing the procedures, with the aim of completing them by June 30, 2027. The plan includes disarming non-Iraqi armed groups present on Iraqi territory and strengthening national sovereignty through supporting defensive capabilities, including the purchase of a missile defense system and integrating the Popular Mobilization Forces law into the security framework. The government also officially announced the end of the international coalition's mission and the withdrawal of its forces, emphasizing the protection of Iraqi sovereignty and preventing the use of Iraqi land or airspace for any activities threatening the security of neighboring countries.
