Cholera affects Yemen displacement camps
Yemen is experiencing widespread health deterioration due to ongoing war and Houthi attacks, with an increasing number of cholera and water- and sanitation-related diseases in displacement camps. The number of suspected cases has reached 7,784 up to the thirty-eighth week. Continuous displacement movements are heightening health risks, as diseases spread due to the lack of safe water sources and the absence of sanitation services. Additionally, essential healthcare facilities have been affected, with emergency maternal and newborn care services stopping in two hospitals. The country's health system faces immense pressure to provide care amid disease outbreaks and ongoing fighting. There is an urgent need to strengthen vaccination campaigns and improve coordination to reduce health decline, better protect vulnerable groups, and prevent further deterioration.
