Agriculture Minister on War and Basic Commodity Costs
The Iranian Minister of Agriculture confirmed that the war has led to an increase in the costs of supplying basic goods in Iran. Transportation, insurance, and import risks have all risen, despite supplies not being completely disrupted. The cost of transporting a kilogram of rice has increased from 10,000-12,000 Toman to 50,000-60,000 Toman, and container shipping costs have risen to over 3,000 euros via some land routes. Nevertheless, the country has maintained market stability through strategic reserves exceeding 6 million tons and by continuing to diversify import routes, especially through northern ports. The minister pointed out that domestic production covers 85% of the food needs, and that diversifying import channels, along with stockpiles and efficient transportation networks, plays a key role in ensuring food security under wartime conditions.
