Journalist César Candia, reporter for "SNT" and "C9N" channels and director of the "Noticias al Día" platform, was attacked in the city of Yasy Kañy in Paraguay. An unidentified masked individual set fire to his car using an accelerant before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred early on September 25 and resulted in a fire that damaged his vehicle and caused great fear for him and his family, with possible links to his journalistic work. The prosecutor’s office has called for increased protection for the journalist, and police are searching for two suspects—one believed to have carried out the attack and the other seen riding a motorcycle. Reporters Without Borders confirmed that attacks on journalists are recurring in Paraguay, with impunity remaining a serious issue, and the country is currently ranked 88th worldwide in press freedom for the year 2026.
