Germany: Pro and Anti-Abortion Protests
Events took place in Berlin and Cologne involving supporters and opponents of abortion as part of the "March for Life." Participants called for a ban on abortion and carried banners opposing it, while opponents organized protests advocating for the legality of abortion and women's right to choose. Thousands took part in the events, which were accompanied by verbal confrontations and peaceful protests, with occasional incidents of obstructions and detentions. The debate within the church continues, with some anti-abortion bishops participating, while religious leaders emphasize that protecting life must be accompanied by respecting the dignity of all. Legally, abortion is criminalized in Germany but is permitted within the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, provided the woman receives prior counseling. The march remains a central focus in discussions about the rights of the child and mother, as well as the legal status of abortion.
