11 Syrian Defense Members Killed in Deir Ezzor Explosion
Eleven personnel from the Syrian Ministry of Defense were killed as a result of a mysterious explosion at an arms depot in Deir Ezzor Province. The explosion occurred inside a military facility, causing ammunition to detonate and projectiles to scatter in the surrounding area, which initially hampered rescue operations. Sources from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights suggest that the recent explosions may have been carried out by ISIS (Daesh), but the ministry has not yet announced final results of the investigation into the causes of the incident. Similar incidents have occurred in the past; for example, an explosion in Sarmada resulted in 14 deaths and more than 10 injuries, amid concerns about ISIS activity in the region.
