Egypt wages: family monthly expenses
Although the wages of workers in Egypt have risen to a minimum of 8,000 Egyptian pounds per month, many households, including low-income employees, face difficulties in covering their living costs due to high inflation rates, which reached 14.5% in August 2023, according to official data. Recent studies indicate that a family of four needs approximately 31,784 pounds per month to meet their basic needs, while the minimum wage remains insufficient to ensure an adequate standard of living, especially amid rising prices of goods and services. This situation leads to reduced spending on education and health, an increased reliance on additional work and borrowing, and the expansion of the informal economy, thereby deepening the economic efficiency gap and social pressures on families.
