Ancient Tombs Found in Qalyubia
Egyptian authorities have successfully uncovered rare archaeological tombs dating back to the New Kingdom period (1550-1069 BC) in Qalyubia Governorate, north of Cairo. The discoveries include rock-hewn tombs exhibiting various architectural styles: one featuring a stepped entrance leading to an interior hall, and another with a rectangular shaft leading to two burial chambers. These tombs are considered unique in style due to their rarity, attributed to the region's clay soil, making their study important for understanding the development of burial practices in the eastern Nile Delta. Archaeological evidence indicates that these tombs were in use from the late New Kingdom into the late period, with remnants of a Roman camp found above the site. The area also has historical links to the Hyksos era, having been a major military center before continuing to be utilized during the Greek and Roman periods.
