Gaza Students Resume Classes Amid Damage
The 2026/2027 academic year has begun in Gaza after three years of war and destruction, with around 700,000 students participating in education despite most schools being damaged or converted into shelter centers. The Ministry of Education’s plan relies on flexible learning through functional schools, temporary centers, study points inside tents, and digital platforms, aiming to reach 350,000 students this year compared to 270,000 in the previous year. Additionally, UNRWA has opened 86 learning spaces, with a plan to gradually expand in-person education based on safety conditions and resource availability. Most students have not returned to traditional schools due to significant infrastructure damage, and learning is currently taking place through digital means and in temporary locations.
