Netanyahu aims to block Israelis abroad from voting
The article discusses the upcoming Israeli elections and the Likud Party's efforts, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, to prevent Israeli expatriates from voting through the "Travel and Vote" initiative, which helps them return to the country to participate in the vote. The party has filed a request to ban the initiative, claiming it is illegal and financed by foreign entities, thus threatening the integrity of the election. In Israel, citizens residing abroad are not allowed to vote remotely; they must either return to vote or waive their voting rights. Expatriate votes account for about 10% of the population. The scheduled elections on October 27 come after years of unrest, and there are concerns that a large return of expatriates could strengthen the opposition, amid declining poll numbers for both Netanyahu's and the opposition's factions.
