Trump reaches security deal with Greenland
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States has reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that grants Washington "permanent control" over security and regional needs in Greenland, including the development of a significant military presence across a large part of the island. Trump considered the agreement to be lifelong and without cost to the United States, and it is expected to be signed during the United Nations General Assembly after completing Danish parliamentary procedures. The region, which has autonomous status within the Kingdom of Denmark, faces strong opposition from Denmark, Greenland, and many European countries due to what Trump described as a permanent takeover of the area.
