Yemen crisis intensifies with thousands displaced
The humanitarian crisis in Yemen continues to worsen amid escalating fighting and increasing numbers of displaced people. The number of internally displaced persons has surpassed 112,000 in recent times, with over 100,000 fleeing just in the past two weeks alone. The Houthi control over the Red Sea coast and the deteriorating security situation have triggered a new wave of displacement. Meanwhile, the local population faces a severe shortage of humanitarian aid, as nearly half of the population—22 million people—depend on aid to meet their basic needs. Women and children are particularly affected; some women have given birth outdoors without medical care. Additionally, thousands of Yemenis are fleeing across the Gulf of Aden to Djibouti to escape the fighting, which adds further pressure on the limited resources available for refugees and humanitarian organizations. The United Nations warns that further depletion of resources could worsen the situation, as funding shortages impact relief programs, amidst ongoing conflict and the growing needs of Yemeni families seeking safety and shelter.
