International Agency endorses Egypt's nuclear move

The 70th session of the IAEA General Conference adopted an Egyptian resolution calling for the application of the Agency's safeguards system to all nuclear facilities in the Middle East, reflecting the support of 112 countries with no votes against. The resolution aims to enhance regional security and stability by establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons, other weapons of mass destruction, and nuclear-related activities, as well as to promote the universality of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Egypt emphasizes the importance of international commitment to the NPT and calls for increased efforts to create a weapons-free zone in the Middle East. The 2026 General Conference is seen as an opportunity for dialogue and joining the treaty.
