The Iranian Revolutionary Guard targeted a Togolese-flagged oil tanker and stopped it after a fire broke out on board, confirming that this action is part of Iran's efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz and prevent illegal vessel transit. Iran asserts that the strait is under its control and that any unauthorized crossing attempts will be met with incidents. This incident is seen as part of Iran's escalation in vital transit routes amid economic and military repercussions linked to the regional conflict.
