Iran increases Russian wheat imports
Last month, Iran experienced a shift in its imports of Russian wheat, as it gradually began directing its shipments from the Black Sea ports to the Caspian Sea regions. This change was due to disruptions in Black Sea shipments caused by Ukrainian drone attacks and the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s wheat imports are estimated at around 200,000 tons for the current July season, with expectations of an increase due to ongoing issues in the Black Sea. Iran has become the largest importer of Russian grains, particularly barley and corn, surpassing Egypt. By September, its total imports had exceeded 913,000 tons, reflecting its increasing reliance on Russian grains amidst the tense regional circumstances.
