A traffic accident resulted in injuries to 17 Egyptian students on the Cairo-Suez road, before they reached school. The bus that transported the students was not affiliated with the school but belonged to the parents, which is a common practice in Egypt due to limited availability of buses or high costs. This incident reflects the recurring problem of school transportation accidents in the country, prompting calls for a national plan to ensure student transport safety. Such a plan would include technical inspections of buses, road improvements, and the use of technology to monitor speed and routes, in addition to stricter oversight of bus drivers—particularly regarding substance abuse, as previous accidents have revealed. The government and members of parliament are calling for the activation of strict security measures to ensure student safety, along with raising awareness about the importance of contracting licensed and qualified buses, especially considering that Egypt recorded a 10.7% increase in road accident fatalities in 2025.
