Knee washing in ablution highlights fatwa issues
The article discusses the use of artificial intelligence in issuing religious legal opinions (fatwas), focusing on the example of "washing the knees" in ablution, which was announced by an Islamic assistant based on AI and provides steps unrelated to traditional Islamic scholarly references. The report indicates that religious institutions adopt a cautious stance toward relying entirely on smart applications for issuing fatwas, due to the lack of comprehensive Islamic jurisprudence tools and the inability of technology to handle specific contextual circumstances. While some entities develop tools that utilize AI in a supportive role, human scholarly oversight remains essential to ensure the accuracy and reliability of fatwas, with warnings about the potential for errors or manipulation when relying excessively on automation.
