Risks of hacking smart refrigerators

The article highlights the increasing threat of hacking attacks on internet-connected household devices, especially refrigerators, heating systems, and other smart devices, as their adoption in homes continues to rise. France has experienced cyberattacks targeting refrigeration systems in major retail chains, resulting in product spoilage and fires. The report indicates that hackers are currently capable of infiltrating smart home devices either through direct internet connections or via cloud-based applications and services. This allows them to gather information or remotely control the devices, and the risk can extend to exploiting these devices to access larger networks or steal personal data. Cybersecurity experts recommend changing default passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, regularly updating software, and reducing the number of connected devices to ensure better protection against attacks.
