Why Outdated Systems Persist in Hospitals and Airports

The article focuses on the dangers of continuing to use outdated systems in critical sectors such as hospitals, airports, and banks. Despite the availability of modern technologies, many of these sectors still rely on software and hardware that are decades old. It explains that although these systems have remained stable and reliable after years of operation, they pose significant security and technological risks, especially when security vulnerabilities are present or support has ceased. The article emphasizes that updating these systems requires gradual risk management strategies, such as phased migration of functions and the use of integration interfaces, to minimize the potential disruption of vital operations. Additionally, the report warns that delaying updates increases costs and risks, and makes it more difficult to find experts capable of maintaining these older systems. As a result, their continued operation becomes a vulnerability that is challenging to address later on.
