FIFA's efforts to defend Infantino
The article focuses on the issue of the FIFA presidential elections and the political struggles within the organization, emphasizing support for Gianni Infantino and his opponents' efforts to remove him. It explains that the voting system allows every national federation, whether large or small, to cast a vote, granting Infantino a broad electoral base thanks to support from African and Asian federations, despite his decline in Europe. The article also discusses disagreements over the proposal to open World Cup hosting to investors and the controversy surrounding the distribution of billions of dollars to federations, especially smaller ones that receive a high percentage of funding, affecting the balance of influence. As the 2027 elections approach, Infantino's opponents face challenges in proving potential corruption or forming a rival coalition, as financial interests intertwine with electoral politics. The battle for control and influence continues to surround this major international organization.
