Offside Incident Sparks Anger in Tunisia Libya Match
The Tunisia-Libya match in the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was marred by referee controversy after the assistant referee stopped a Libyan attack toward the Tunisian goal in stoppage time, accusing the Libyan player of offside. The Libyan team was on the verge of scoring the winning goal, but the offside decision was based on the rules of the game, which state that a player is in an offside position if any part of their body is in the opponent's half and closer to the goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent. This rule applied to the Libyan player’s situation. Despite Libya's protests, the decision was correct, resulting in Tunisia being eliminated from the qualification race. Meanwhile, Libya maintained hope of qualifying after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
