FIFA funds spark behind-the-scenes activity
The article concerns a plea from the heads of the European Union and CONCACAF to Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, for an additional $10 million for each federation from FIFA's reserves expected after the success of the 2026 World Cup, with reserves estimated at around $6 billion following the event. The aim is to balance Infantino's financial influence, as he seeks to maintain the support of national federations, especially amid escalating power struggles within FIFA ahead of a potential presidential election. They also called for an independent financial analysis before the upcoming meeting in Zurich on October 15 to ensure a responsible distribution of funds, reaffirming that the previously allocated funding for each federation until 2030 will continue as planned.
