Zinedine's era begins with 5 new France squad members
Zinedine Zidane began his tenure as head coach of the French national team by selecting a squad of 23 players for the UEFA Nations League matches, including 5 newcomers who have yet to represent the senior team. Among them are goalkeeper Guillaume Reynet, defender Jérémy Jaki, midfielder Lucas Da Costa, and forward Esteban Léobal. Notable absences from the list include prominent names such as Aurélien Tchouaméni, N'Golo Kanté, and Marcus Thuram, with injuries preventing William Saliba and Théo Hernandez from joining. The squad features key attacking players led by Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé, with Eduardo Camavinga returning after missing the 2026 World Cup. This lineup serves as Zidan's first practical test of his new approach since taking over as coach, as France is set to face Turkey, Belgium, and Italy next month.
