Xavi Builds Barcelona's Best Team
Barcelona opened its season with coach Hansie Flic with a strong offensive performance, achieving a 7-2 victory over Rasing Santander. The team produced intense attacking play, including 30 shots and 64 touches inside the penalty area, with an expected goals (xG) of 6.65—its highest in La Liga this season. The team scored 28 goals in the first six matches, averaging 4.67 goals per game—an unprecedented figure since the 1950-1951 and 2011-2012 seasons—and surpassing other Spanish clubs since 1940-1941. The offensive performance relies on creating numerous chances through through passes and a large number of opportunities, with a clear dominance in open play and passing. The most significant change appears to be in enhancing this approach following the summer transfers, which increased the team's pace and diversified options on the wings. Key players like Rødri contribute to better control, highlighting that the offensive phase is currently the standout aspect, supported by relatively stable defense. Results remain to be tested against tougher opponents ahead, but the start positions Barcelona at the peak of its attacking strength.
