Federal Reserve's rate hike rationale
An analysis issued by Bank of America reveals that the Federal Reserve is determined to raise interest rates due to the continued strength of the U.S. economy and high consumer spending levels, which recorded a 6.3% annual growth—an all-time high. The central bank faces the challenge of supply shocks driving prices higher, while robust demand sustains inflationary pressures, prompting the need for ongoing rate hikes to contain inflation before it becomes ingrained in the economy. Additionally, forecasts for third-quarter GDP growth have been revised upward to 3%, based on strong retail sales data.
