Anchor outs confront Marin County over land enforcement
A community of boat dwellers in Richardson Bay, California, refuses forced removal by authorities, who cite environmental and safety concerns. The remaining residents, some living on vessels for decades, confront a final crackdown aimed at clearing unsafe, abandoned, or harmful boats, which has led to environmental damage and community displacement. Despite offers of compensation and housing assistance, many, including long-term residents, resist leaving, highlighting the cultural significance of their maritime lifestyle.
