Murdaugh's defense claims DNA evidence clears him
Alex Murdaugh's defense team has obtained court approval to conduct a DNA test on samples from the murder scene, with the aim of identifying a potential other suspect. The testing, planned to be performed by Othram using Y-STR analysis, may reveal male DNA contributors, but its results are considered high risk and unlikely to produce significant evidence. The process will use up the remaining samples, and Murdaugh has waived the right to post-trial testing. Critics suggest the test could backfire by linking unknown male DNA to the crime, potentially undermining the defense’s case.
