California's Danish capital plans tighter surveillance
The Solvang City Council is reconsidering its decision to implement AI-enabled surveillance cameras after public concerns about privacy and security. The city had approved a contract to install Verkada cameras at various locations, but officials now plan to review policies related to facial recognition, license plate recognition, and data access due to issues including past hacking incidents and lack of clear data governance. Similarly, Santa Barbara abandoned plans to contract with Verkada until a review of its license plate reader policy is completed.
