Zverev to finish year top after Alcaraz loss
Alexander Zverev will finish the 2026 tennis season as world number one after Carlos Alcaraz's surprise third-round defeat at the Shanghai Masters. Zverev, who secured his first Grand Slam titles at the French Open and US Open, benefited from injuries to his top rivals, Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. This achievement makes him the first German man to end a year ranked number one and the oldest player to do so for the first time.
