Chef critiques Southern food habits
Celebrity chef Tiffany Derry, with Louisiana roots, challenges the stereotype that Southern food is primarily heavy and unhealthy, emphasizing that traditional meals often consisted of fresh vegetables, small amounts of protein, and family preparation. She highlights that such lighter, farm-fresh dishes were common in her upbringing and that heavier foods represent only a small part of Southern cuisine. Derry notes a renewed interest in home cooking and food presentation, including bread-making and elaborate tailgating spreads, reflecting evolving culinary trends.
