California Republicans warn of avocado cartel risks
A group of California Republicans has urged the U.S. Trade Representative to implement limits on sudden Mexican avocado import surges, citing cartel influence over Mexico’s avocado trade and its impact on U.S. growers. They warn that these surges, driven by criminal organizations, threaten domestic prices and production stability. The lawmakers advocate for measures within the USMCA to ensure fair competition while allowing continued access for Mexican avocados.
