Lebanon calls for state-controlled weapons

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawar Salameh affirmed that the monopoly of weapons by the state is the foundation of its existence and constitution. He emphasized that only the army, internal security forces, general security, state security, customs, and municipal police are authorized to carry weapons. He pointed out that this principle is outlined in the Taif Agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The government is working to implement a plan to make weapons exclusively controlled by the state across all regions, while maintaining the demilitarization of Hezbollah and preserving the resistance's arms against Israel. Additionally, the government discussed the issue of the explosives shipment suspected to be linked to Hezbollah, stressing the importance of investigation and referring the matter to the judiciary if necessary.
