ICC receives European Parliament Human Rights Award

The International Criminal Court has been awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, granted by the European Parliament, in recognition of its efforts to uphold international law and human rights, despite the challenges it faces from sanctions imposed by the Trump administration following arrest warrants against officials. The President of the European Parliament stated that the prize serves as a reminder of the importance of the Court's independence in performing its duties and protecting international justice from political pressure, as it is the only institution responsible for trying perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity. This award comes amid assurances of the need to support the Court in facing unprecedented challenges and countering attempts to undermine its work.
